Grace Martin is thrilled to be teaching piano lessons in the Syracuse, NY area. Grace grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska where she began learning the piano in kindergarten. She received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Music and Russian at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Since graduating from St. Olaf College, Grace attended the Collaborative Piano Festival in Baton Rouge before being accepted into a graduate teaching assistant program at the University of Idaho. At U of I, Grace completed her Master’s of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, while also working to gain as much experience as possible in jazz and collaborative piano. Grace loves working in all kinds of musical environments, from teaching improvisation to middle schoolers, to covering keyboards in pit orchestras, to jazz combos, to solo classical piano (and toy piano!) performance. She is always excited to try something new and expand her tool box as a musician. In addition, Grace also has extensive experience working in Sacred Music as a church pianist, singer, and is now embarking on organ!
In her lessons, Grace works to help her students develop both excellent artistry, rhythm and reading, as well as strong command of the instrument through establishing a healthy technique that will keep them playing without injury for years to come! She teaches both Classical repertoire as well as Jazz and improvisation lessons for those who are interested in going beyond the written page or want to pursue playing in bands, at their church, composing, or just playing popular songs for their friends. Whatever type of music the student desires to learn, it is Grace’s goal to help them achieve that artistic success.
Grace offers a blend of both in person and online lessons.
